Struggling to find vegan foods at the supermarket? There are actually plenty of foods you might not know are vegan. You may have some of them in your kitchen right now, or have been eating them for years!

What are accidentally vegan foods?

Accidentally vegan food is food that was not produced specifically for the vegan market, but happens to be vegan because they do not contain any meat, dairy, eggs or other animal-derived products. Lots of foods you eat every day are accidentally vegan, including many breads, pastas, crackers, and cereals.

You might be surprised to learn some of the following foods are vegan-friendly.

13 accidentally vegan foods

Lindt Excellence Cocoa Bars (70%, 85% & 90%)

Please note this does NOT include the 78% because #logic.

Coco pops

If you’re wondering what cereals are accidentally vegan, you might be happy to hear Coco Pops are, including the white choc and chex varieties! Check out a full list of vegan Kellogg’s cereals here.

Maggi 2-minute noodles

Yes, that includes the beef and chicken favours!

Arnott’s raspeberry shortcake & lemon crisp biscuits

Check out my Tiktok video for more vegan-friendly sweet biscuits.

skittles

The main types of Skittles are now all vegan friendly.

original oreos

Made without animal-derived ingredients, original flavour Oreos and are safe to eat for vegans. If you have a dairy allergy, keep in mind that they are made in facilities that handle milk.

sour patch kids

No gelatin (aka ground up animals bones) in these babies! Any of the sour patch range is good to go.

nutTelex

An obvious one for some, but for many this was a household ‘buttery’ staple they never thought of as vegan.

Crumpets

Most store-bought crumpets are vegan. Served warm with Nuttelex? Yes please.

LOTUS biscoff spread

*Warning, highly addictive.

Biscoff spread is vegan!

Doritos

Original, spicy sweet chilli, and tortilla corn chips flavours are good to go. Party snacks sorted.

raisin toast

Most store-bought fruit or raisin toast is vegan-friendly, like Tip Top. I am obsessed with fruit toast for breakfast!

vegetable spring rolls

Large packs of vegetable spring rolls from Coles or Woolworths are vegan friendly. Perfect for large get togethers or lazy dinners.
